In the last 2 days a deal has opened up to Japan, mainly for the fall. There are great prices from both Seattle (starting at $461) and Portland ($471), from American Airlines and their OneWorld Alliance partner Japan Airlines. These deals run from late August to early December, for early and mid-week departures. Booking directly through AA provides more options, but online travel agencies are also available. These prices are several hundred dollars below regular fares, an unexpectedly good deal. Seattle includes both directs and 1-stop flights; Portland has short layovers in L.A. or Dallas.
