Craving a Summer Rail Trip? BOGO on Amtrak This Weekend!

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge fan of travel by train.  It’s equal parts novelty and nostalgia in my book.  I don’t travel by train much, but I really do look forward to the times we do. So far, I’ve taken Amtrak as far as Washington D.C. from Boston, once to Baltimore, and a few times to New York City.  Hopefully by the end of this summer, we’ll be in a decent position to travel more regularly again.

BOGO Amtrak Trips for Valentine’s Day!

I know I know, Amtrak may not be THE most romantic thing out there, but I think it’s a fun adventure!  Right now, Amtrak is offering Buy one ticket, get one free on select routes.  The majority of lines are eligible, with only the Amtrak Cascades, Pennsylvanian, Keystone Service and 7000-8999 Thruways excluded from the offer.

You must book by Tuesday February 16, for travel between February 22 and August 27, 2021. That gives you plenty of time to prepare. (And, hopefully it’s plenty of time for things to get back to normal around here…)

(Amtrak runs promotions every few weeks.  If you can, wait for a promotion to book your trip!)

Amtrak Coast Starlight (Los Angeles – Seattle) passing Moorpark Station HDR

My son is itching to trek around NYC again, which is only a short hop from us in Boston.  Once you factor in airport traffic, security, preboarding, and boarding time … AND then getting from JFK/EWR/LGA to your hotel, Amtrak is actually a pretty good option. I may just book a trip for the two of us late summer, fingers crossed!  Amtrak is currently waiving change fees for any trips booked through March 31, so we can always push the dates as needed.

NOTE: Amtrak is a little sneaky with fares, at least in my experience.  These promotions never include other discounts, which can often make the ticket price cheaper on their own.  For example, I’m seeing some Acela First Class tickets at $83 when searching for a single traveler. When I book through the BOGO heading, that same ticket is $306!  Tread lightly…  I really want to like Amtrak, and I get excited, but then they hit us with this kind of stuff.

Will you book anything?  One of these days we’ll be hopping all over the country (and world) again, and I can’t wait.  You can check out all of the preventive measures Amtrak is taking here. Safe travels!
