Hotels and airlines often offer what they call a status match program. Because these hotels and airlines are often competing for the same travelers, there is an incentive to try and peel off a competitor’s top customers. But if you think about a top-tier elite traveler who holds, say, Hyatt Globalist status, they’re probably not willing to switch to Hilton unless they also get some of the similar benefits at Hilton.
