Playa Esterillos Oeste – A Quiet Surfing Beach in Costa Rica

Nearly every popular surfing beach you go to in Costa Rica is full of people. At Playa Tamarindo, you need to watch out if you’re a swimmer for oncoming boards. At Playa Hermosa, the waves are more for the pros. To find a less crowded surfing beach in Costa Rica, you’ll have to explore a little.

We found one of these beaches during a trip to Jaco, Playa Esterillos Oeste. Esterillos actually consists of three sections: Esterillos Oeste, Centro and Este stretching down the Central Pacific coast with Oeste as the most popular out of the three. Though the entire area of Esterillos is fairly big, Esterillos Oeste town is very small and rural and the beach is not very crowded.
